Working Principle of Cylinder Cleaning Screen

The Cylinder Cleaning Screen is a pre-cleaning and screening device commonly used in grain processing plants, feed mills, seed cleaning lines, and storage facilities. Its working principle is based on rotary screening + separation by particle size.

1. Material enters the rotating cylinder

Raw materials (maize, wheat, paddy, soybean, etc.) enter the circular sieve drum. The drum is slightly inclined, allowing material to move forward as it rotates.

2. Rotation drives separation

Inside the drum, the screen surface continuously rotates. As the material rolls, lifts, and falls, smaller particles pass through the perforated holes, while oversized impurities move toward the end of the screen.

3. Multi-stage screening effect

Depending on the screen mesh size, the machine separates:

Fine impurities (dust, sand, small chaff)

Oversized impurities (straw, corn cobs, stones larger than grain, rope, plastic bags)

Clean grain passes through smoothly to the next process

4. Impurity discharge

Oversized materials are discharged from the tail outlet, while fine impurities fall through the screen into a lower collection area. Clean grains continue forward to downstream equipment such as elevators, destoners or milling machines.

How to Use a Cylinder Cleaning Screen
1. Install in the pre-cleaning section

Place it before storage silos, conveying systems, or milling equipment. A slight inclination angle (typically 5–10°) ensures smooth material flow.

2. Choose proper screen mesh

Select screen hole sizes based on grain type:

Maize: larger perforations

Wheat / paddy: medium-sized holes

Soybeans / seeds: precise mesh selection for better grading

3. Adjust feed rate

Use an adjustable feed gate or vibrator feeder to keep material entering evenly. Too much material reduces cleaning efficiency.

4. Check rotation speed

Maintain the recommended rpm.
Too fast → reduces screening accuracy
Too slow → lowers processing capacity

5. Perform regular cleaning

Remove accumulated impurities from the outlet

Check the screen for wear or blockage

Ensure bearings are lubricated

Inspect the drum for stable rotation

6. Keep dust control active

If connected to a dust collection system, ensure air suction is balanced to avoid material loss.
